The Super 16 sensor is full 1080 HD resolution and has an incredible 13 stops of dynamic range and global shutter up to 30 frames per second. Most DSLR and action cameras use a rolling shutter that exposes different parts of the image in fractions of a second, causing video to appear skewed or wobbly when the camera moves or vibrates. The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera’s global shutter acts more like a still camera, exposing the entire image at the same time so you get distortion and ripple free video! With an ISO up to 1600, the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera also gives you great quality, even in locations with low lighting.
Built in RAW and ProRes Recorder
Record using professional formats without ugly compression artifacts
The built in recorder captures true 12-bit log digital film quality images without the artifacts you get on heavily compressed 8-bit H.264 files used on small consumer action and DSLR cameras. Files can be saved in either Cinema DNG RAW or ProRes. Cinema DNG RAW files are 12-bit log and give you all of the data from the camera’s sensor, so you have the latitude to change things like white balance and exposure long after the camera stops rolling. If you need smaller file sizes and longer recording times, you can use ProRes to get broadcast quality images. Both formats can be easily edited and color corrected with the included DaVinci Resolve Lite for Mac and Windows.

The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera features an active Micro Four Thirds lens mount so you can use high performance photographic lenses including wide angle, primes, standard zooms, telephotos and more. That means you’re not stuck with a built in lens and can choose the best lens for the job! The focus, iris and zoom on active MFT lenses can be controlled remotely from the camera’s expansion port. Because they’re on the front, the buttons are always accessible, whether the camera is strapped to your body or mounted in tight locations. 4 analog radio remote control inputs
The expansion port provides 4 PWM inputs, as used to control analog servos on model airplanes. Mapping these inputs to features on the Micro Cinema Camera gives you an extremely low cost, power efficient way to wirelessly control your camera. Each PWM analog input operates a single channel that can drive a feature such as lens focus, iris and servo zooms. The expansion port also has 5V and 0V pins that you can custom wire to a PWM input for controlling switches or buttons. You can even use external custom controllers such as a BASIC Stamp or Raspberry Pi for more complex control!
Futaba's highly accurate 18 channel radio control system
Futaba’s S.Bus is a highly accurate, digital radio remote control system that can also be used to control servos that in turn adjust focus, iris, servo zoom or any camera setting. S.Bus is a more modern version of radio control than PWM because it uses 1 connection to control up to 18 channels. That means you can map more camera functions for remote control than PWM. Most often used for radio remote control of airplane and helicopter models, S.Bus receivers and decoders can be found in most major hobby stores online.
The universal standard for wired remote control
LANC is a universal standard supported by hundreds of equipment manufacturers for controlling things like camera start and stop, as well as various lenses and accessories. The expansion port’s breakout cable includes an industry standard LANC connection so you can add external lens controllers for your active MFT lenses. That means, depending on your lens, you could get wired remote control over things like iris, focus and servo zooms.

The expansion port features composite video out so you can use low cost wireless video transmitters to get a real time camera feed. Use it for camera set up, remote focus and iris adjustments because it has overlays for camera settings. Blackburst and Tri-Sync
Synchronize the Micro Cinema Cam with all the other equipment in your studio or together in a stereoscopic rig. The expansion port includes a reference input that is compatible with tri-sync and blackburst for locking the camera to other video equipment, or syncing two cameras together when doing 3D stereoscopic shoots. Model Aircraft Radio Control
Analog radio control transmitters and receivers from manufacturers like Spektrum, JR and Hitec are typically used to drive servos on model planes but are perfect for simple wireless remote control of the Micro Cinema Cam. These systems are incredibly popular and available on hobbyist web sites world wide! The dials, switches and joysticks on the radio controller are output on different radio channels and these channels can be connected to the camera and assigned to different camera functions. The expansion port on the Micro Cinema Camera includes 4 analog PWM inputs for 4 channels. If you need more than 4 channels you can use the S.Bus control.
Wireless Video Transmitters
Inexpensive video transmitters can take composite out of the Micro Cinema Camera and wirelessly transmit the signal to monitors. RF-Link, and Nyrius make composite video transmitters that send signals up to 300 ft away! You can view the live video feed on a monitor as well as camera settings overlays, remotely as the camera flies over head in a quadcopter. A more advanced monitoring solution is to use a wireless HDMI transmitter to connect to HD video glasses such as Zeiss Cinemizer OLED that surround you with the video signal so you can fly the quadcopter as a virtual reality experience!
