Live Multi Camera Production
Broadcast quality Ultra HD that’s small enough to use anywhere
|The small size and completely open design of the Micro Studio Camera 4K makes it perfect for any live multi camera production! It’s virtually invisible and can be hidden just about anywhere on set, giving you the ability to have more camera angles than ever before so you can create a more interesting program. You can even hide them on stage to get incredible shots of live performances or, because they’re so small, safely fly them overhead during sporting events. It can also be used in the studio by rigging it with a professional broadcast lens and a Blackmagic Video Assist for monitoring.|
The world’s most riggable Ultra HD studio camera
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K is engineered with a super tough magnesium alloy core in a body that’s not much larger than the lens mount itself! You can use affordable, high performance MFT lenses or add a B4 adapter to work with traditional broadcast lenses. The Micro Studio Camera’s SDI program input accepts commands via the SDI connection from any ATEM switcher so you get remote control of camera settings, color balancing, black level, gamma, lens focus, iris and zoom control and much more. The expansion port includes PTZ and B4 lens control outputs so you can remote control remote heads and broadcast lenses all from a single SDI connection.
Flexible Expansion Port
Completely customizable remote control of your cameras
The Micro Studio Camera is perfect for remote use because it includes an expansion port with multiple control connections such as a PTZ serial output connection so you can use motorized heads, B4 data link output for controlling broadcast lenses and you can even build customized camera control solutions using the S.Bus input. The expansion connector uses a common DB-HD15 connector so you can easily make your own cables or use the breakout cable that’s included. The expansion port also includes DC camera power in, LANC and reference input.
Ultra HD Image Sensor
True broadcast quality high resolution Ultra HD sensor
The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes an incredible quality broadcast grade Ultra HD sensor for amazing clarity and the finest textures. Ultra HD is even more important when you’re working in HD because the extra sensor resolution completely eliminates any color loss from the sensor’s bayer pattern so you get full bandwidth RGB HD color and superior sub pixel anti-aliasing for amazing fine image detail. The Micro Studio Camera 4K has a 6G-SDI connection so it works up to 30 frames per second in Ultra HD and can also be switched to 3G-SDI or HD-SDI so it can operate up to 1080p60. If you’re working in HD or Ultra HD the Micro Studio Camera 4K can easily handle both.
Micro Four Thirds Lens Mount
Use a range of MFT lenses or lens adapters
Active MFT photo lenses are designed to be small, light weight and produce super sharp images at a much higher resolution than traditional video lenses which makes them perfect for Ultra HD. They can be remotely controlled using the return SDI program feed from your ATEM switcher or from the expansion port on the camera. You can even add a lens mount adapter to use your existing collection of Broadcast B4 lenses or even feature film style PL lenses!
SDI in and out, HDMI monitoring, headphone, and microphone input
The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a full size HDMI connector for local video monitoring so you can add a monitor to the camera or quickly plug in a local monitor when you’re setting the position of a remote camera or changing camera menus. There is a mini BNC connector for the main camera SDI output and a mini BNC connector for the camera program input which can be used to provide reference, control camera CCU settings, return talkback audio and tally status. There is a 3.5mm mic input for external microphones and a 3.5mm headphone socket that supports an iPhone compatible mic so you can use it for talkback.
Remote Camera Control
Control cameras from your ATEM Switcher!
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K works with standard SDI camera control protocols. That means you can connect the program feed from any model of ATEM Switcher to the camera’s SDI input and remotely control any setting in the camera, color correct or even change focus, iris and zoom on supported lenses. Broadcast cameras traditionally have basic CCU color balance controls, however the Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a full DaVinci primary color corrector so you get so much more than simple CCU controls because you can also do a full color grade in the camera. Now the technical director can fine tune the settings and match the looks of cameras quickly.
Quick Camera Settings
Quickly access the most important settings
The built in row of buttons along the front of the camera gives you quick and easy access to power, menu navigation and settings. Because they’re on the front, the buttons are always accessible, even when rigged into tight locations. Simply plug into any HDMI display such as a TV or the portable Blackmagic Video Assist so you can see the camera’s menus and you can easily change any of the camera’s settings. You can use the menus to set the camera up and then that allows the switcher to take control of the camera via the SDI program input.
Great Quality Sound
High quality microphones built in or use external microphones
The built in stereo microphones are engineered for high quality audio and feature a mechanical design that helps reduce unwanted wind noise so you get great sounding audio. When you need better audio in windy outdoor conditions such as sporting events, you can plug in an external mic with a wind sock to capture clean sound! The camera instantly switches to the external microphone when one is connected and can work with both line or mic levels. Whether you’re using the built in microphones or attaching one from the outside, the audio is embedded into the SDI video output so you get perfect audio and video sync!
Built In Talkback
Two way communicationwith the entire crew!
The Micro Studio Camera 4K includes an iPhone style headphone socket with mic so you get full talkback support. You can also use standard noise canceling headsets, like those from Bose, Sennheiser and more to hear the technical director without distraction from the audience. Because the camera has an SDI connection to the switcher and an SDI connection from the switcher the talkback audio is embedded into channels 15 and 16 of the SDI signal and you get two way communication. If you’re setting up fixed cameras, talkback makes it easy to walk from camera to camera and plug in your headset to communicate with the rest of the crew to get the best angles and framing.
Battery or External Power
Use DC power or removable batteries
The camera includes a 12V to 30V DC power input so you can power the camera using any standard power supply or even a simple plug pack. There is a standard LP-E6 Canon compatible battery receptacle on the back of the camera so you can add a battery to get local back up power if the power supply gets accidentally disconnected during a critical live broadcast. The power input is located on the expansion port so you can simply connect power to the breakout cable or you can make a custom cable so you can have multiple camera connections over longer distances and all down a single cable loom.
Add Popular Accessories
Build the ultimate studio camera
|The expansion port combined with the flexible MFT lens mount and external mounting points gives you a massive amount of options for customizing your studio camera! You can use the camera remotely by itself, or you can add accessories to rig the camera so you can build your own custom studio camera! Add 3rd party lenses from companies like Olympus, Panasonic and others, or use an adapter to work with a wide range of B4 lenses or even feature film PL lenses! Two ¼” mounting points are on the top and bottom of the camera so you can tripod mount the camera and add local monitor to use as a viewfinder. You can even add an external recorder to build a custom Ultra HD video camera.
The studio camera that’s small enough to use anywhere!
The Micro Studio Camera 4K is the world’s smallest broadcast quality live production camera for Ultra HD and HD! You can set it up anywhere to get incredible shots from virtually any angle for creating the best multi camera programs. The camera body is not much bigger than the lens mount, so it’s a super flexible camera head that can be rigged for anything and controlled remotely. When there’s no room for a cameraman or a full sized studio camera, the Micro Studio Camera 4K is the perfect solution!
Capture the drama with discreetly placed hidden cameras!
The Micro Studio Camera’s super small size makes it perfect for use as a hidden camera on reality TV shows. Multiple cameras can be placed throughout the set and all connected back to a live production switcher or a rack of HyperDeck Studio Pros that can record non-stop so you never miss a moment of hair pulling drama. For live switched shows, you can remotely control the hidden cameras on set, using the program feed from your ATEM switcher.
Get more angles on stage, backstage and in the audience!
Now you can produce live multi camera concerts in Ultra HD without obstructing the performance. Choose different lenses to cover a variety of angles including audience fly overs, complete wide angle stage views, unique band member POVs and more! ATEM Live Production switchers can control the cameras so you can change focus, iris and zoom as the band moves around stage. You can even adjust the camera’s built in color corrector to create great looks during the concert.
Broadcast from the best seats in the house
Live theater often has large audiences and the cameras can’t get in the way. The unobtrusive size of the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K lets you get better coverage of live performances so you get more camera angles than ever before! The camera’s 6G-SDI output connects directly to a switcher and the camera’s SDI input receives commands from the switcher so you can remotely change lens settings and more! It’s the perfect camera for theatrical productions whether you’re broadcasting live or recording the event for later post production or even archival purposes.
Put the audience in the middle of the action!
Sporting events are often broadcast worldwide while at the same time shown on large jumbo screens in the stadium. The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K helps you put the audience in the center of the action, whether it’s from the middle of the court, hidden in the goal post, behind home plate or flying over the field from a suspended camera system. Even if you’re not broadcasting Ultra HD, the extra resolution and color fidelity from the camera’s sensor can produce incredibly sharp, vivid textures that look dramatically better than traditional HD video cameras!
Create an amazing, high resolution learning library

In a live multi camera studio set up you can set them on pedestals, mount them overhead in the lighting grid, or even tuck them discreetly into the set. Just add the lens of your choice, attach a Blackmagic Video Assist as a viewfinder, and run SDI back to an ATEM switcher. You can control your fixed cameras remotely from the switcher and use talkback to communicate with the operators on the rest of your cameras.
High End Security
The highest resolution security camera
Security cameras often have poor quality that makes it hard to identify persons of interest. The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K is native Ultra HD so you get extremely sharp and detailed high resolution video that you can even send to broadcasters to help assist in identifying and locating criminals! You can select the right lens based on the location of the camera and even use PTZ heads for remotely adjusting camera position. By connecting each camera to a HyperDeck Studio you’ll get hours of reliable, extremely high quality recording and up to 16 cameras can be monitored on a single display using Blackmagic MultiView 16.
More Cameras for Better Coverage
Improve your production values with multiple cameras
By adding Micro Studio Cameras to productions that normally only have 1 or 2 cameras, you’ll be able to get better coverage from new and interesting angles to create a more professional program. You can add extra cameras by hiding them on set in interesting locations such as on table tops, mini tripods or mounted around the room for permanent low key installations. It’s the highest quality, most discreet camera you can use and will almost never be noticed by camera shy speakers. Imagine having 5 or more cameras for your productions in schools, churches or even at conferences!
The massively expandable impossibly small studio camera!
The Micro Studio Camera 4K is the world’s smallest and most expandable professional studio camera! You get an Ultra HD camera that works with an incredibly wide range of professional, high resolution lenses and has a unique new expansion port that lets you create completely customized solutions. Built in 6G-SDI lets you connect the Micro Studio Camera to switchers for live program production.
The smallest Ultra HD studio camera head
With a design only 2.57 inches high, 3.25 inches wide and 2.74 inches deep, it’s the smallest Ultra HD broadcast studio camera in the world. It’s barely larger than the lens mount itself. That makes the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera small enough to use it on set in hidden locations such as in cereal boxes or even a teapot to get interesting angles that you couldn’t otherwise get with a full size camera! Even with one of the ultra slim Micro Four Thirds lenses attached you still have a full studio camera that you can place anywhere.
Strong Magnesium Alloy Core
Small and lightweight with an incredibly solid chassis
The core chassis and lens mount of the Micro Studio Camera 4K are made from the same unique magnesium alloy that’s used to build high performance racing car wheels. That means you get a super strong camera that’s also lightweight! There are two ¼ thread mount points located on the top and bottom of the camera that can be used for securely fastening the camera onto pedestals, cranes, broadcast platforms or any other custom rig that you design.
Create a customized studio camera for your live productions
No other professional studio camera allows so much customization. With an open standard lens mount, both SDI and HDMI video connections and the unique expansion port you get massive opportunities to build out your camera with custom power options, B4 lens data commands and more. Add professional microphones such as wireless clips and shot gun mics that plug into the external Mic input. Using both the top and bottom mount points you can securely fasten the camera into what ever rig you need.
Open Standard MFT Lens Mount
Use any type of lens that’s available
The Micro Four Thirds lens mount allows you to select from a wide range of photo quality, interchangeable lenses that give you control over focal length, aperture setting and performance. Because the MFT lens mount is open standard, you can select lenses from multiple manufacturers or select lens mount adapters so you can convert to virtually any lens mount available today such as B4 for broadcast lenses, PL cinema lenses or even other types of photographic lenses. Select from fast primes, wide angles with infinite focus or even specialty lenses like macro or tilt and shift lenses. You can even control MFT lenses remotely via the SDI program input from your switcher!
SDI, camera control, audio and more
The Micro Studio Camera 4K features 6G-SDI using high quality mini BNC connections that are multi rate so you can use it with either HD or Ultra HD equipment. When using the camera with an ATEM switcher you can control the camera using the CCU protocol so you can change camera settings, adjust focus and even color correct the image remotely! You get a 3.5mm microphone input that works with both mic and line level devices along with a 3.5mm headphone jack that supports iPhone ear bud style headset with microphone for Talkback!
Integrated Talkback and Tally
Always know when you are on air
The Micro Studio Camera 4K uses the ATEM standard talkback and tally protocol that sends tally signals over SDI so you don't need dedicated tally cables. The tally light on top of the camera illuminates automatically when the camera is live, If the director and camera operators need to communicate during production, an iPhone compatible headset with microphone can be added using the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Setup is easy because talkback is embedded in the SDI video connection to the camera, so you don’t have to run separate talkback cables!
Rechargeable and removable LP-E6 batteries
To ensure your camera never loses power during a critical live production, you can add a Canon compatible LP-E6 battery. These are readily available, are rechargeable and simply snap right onto the back of the camera. The camera’s DC power input is available on the expansion port breakout cable and allows you to plug into any DC power source and the camera will trickle charge the battery so the battery is fully charged and ready to take over if you inadvertently lose power to the camera.
The world’s most expandable studio camera!
The incredibly unique expansion port provides access to a wide range of connections. You can use the included breakout cable to access some of its most common connections or build you own breakout cable for the connections you need! The port is based on a simple DB-HD15 connector which is easy to buy, and incredibly easy to solder!
Smooth pan, tilt, zoom operation
The expansion port features PTZ output so you can attach the camera to motorized heads. PTZ communication uses the RS-485 protocol, which is an industrial strength version of RS-422. Pan, tilt and zoom commands can be sent from an ATEM switcher over SDI to the camera. Servo lenses are smoothly zoomed directly from the camera, while the pan, tilt and zoom commands are also sent from the expansion ports PTZ output to a compatible motorized head.
B4 Broadcast Lens Control
Control the broadcast lenses you already own
The expansion port includes a B4 lens control data link which is the same protocol used to control modern broadcast lenses. By adding an MFT to B4 lens mount adapter and a Blackmagic B4 lens control interface you’re now able to control ENG lenses from Canon, Fuji and others. The included breakout cable has a DB-9 connector which can be used to connect to the control interface module which handles communication with the lens. This open style design means that lens control interfaces can also be created by 3rd parties for any kind of broadcast lens control situation, even older ENG analog lenses!
Futaba's highly accurate 18 channel radio control system
Futaba’s S.Bus is a highly accurate, digital radio remote control system that can also be used to control servos that in turn adjust focus, iris, servo zoom or any camera setting. The S.Bus protocol uses 1 connection to control up to 18 channels and each of these channels can be mapped to a camera function. Most often used for radio remote control of airplane and helicopter models, S.Bus receivers and decoders can be found in most major hobby stores online. The S.Bus control input is a great way to interface camera functions when you want to develop your own sophisticated custom camera control solutions.
The universal wired remote control standard
LANC is a universal standard supported by hundreds of equipment manufacturers for controlling things like camera start and stop, as well as various lenses and accessories. The expansion port’s breakout cable includes an industry standard LANC connection so you can add external lens controllers for your active MFT lenses. That means, depending on your lens, you could get wired remote control over things like iris, focus and servo zooms.
Blackburst and Tri-Sync
The expansion port includes a reference input that is compatible with tri-sync and blackburst for locking the camera to the sync generator in your facility. Once the reference signal is provided, the Micro Studio Cameras will be frame aligned so you can cleanly switch between them, vitally important live production switchers that don’t include frame re-synchronizers on the SDI inputs. Even on switchers such as Blackmagic Design’s ATEM range, that do have re-synchronizers on each SDI input, connecting reference will allow the switcher to bypass the re-synchronizers and reduce video delay to virtually nothing.
Provide an external power feed to the camera
The external power input supports DC voltages ranging from 12V to 20V so you can connect to a wide range of power sources or even large custom battery packs when your camera is being located far away from a power source. Located on the breakout cable, the power input uses a standard DC jack so you can connect to any kind of plug pack power supply. If you’re using broadcast standard 4-pin XLR power sources there’s an alternative breakout cable available that features a standard 4-pin XLR DC power socket.
SDI Camera Protocol
Remote control your camera from your switcher
The Micro Studio Camera 4K has a dedicated SDI program input that accepts camera control protocol as well as talkback and tally from the switcher, over a single cable. This means you can control your camera’s settings, built in color corrector, focus, iris and more remotely from your ATEM switcher! The camera control is very flexible and the camera doesn’t have to be running in the same video format as the program input, so you could even use the camera in Ultra HD while the camera control protocol is sent over a HD signal to the camera.
Compatible with a huge range of accessories!
|The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K has been designed for customization which makes it suitable for any task in a multi camera live production! If you need the camera to stay small, simply attach a lens, when a low profile camera is needed. If you want the camera to be bigger and rigged up into a custom studio camera you can add a wide range of accessories such as monitors, tripod mounts and lenses to custom build any kind of studio camera you like.|
Micro Four Thirds Lenses
When you need incredibly small size the Micro Four Thirds lens mount is perfect! It supports high quality, interchangeable photographic lenses that keep the size of the camera compact. You get incredibly light weight lenses while still having the ability to choose from manufactures like Olympus, Panasonic and others!
Third party lens mount adapters let you use traditional B4 ENG broadcast lenses or even feature film style PL cinema lenses! You can take advantage of using the ENG lenses you already own from manufacturers like Fuji and Canon without being locked into a single lens system. Use the B4 lens control connection to remotely control broadcast lenses from your switcher.
If you need to record video from a single or multiple cameras for later editing, or to create ISO recordings, you can connect the Micro Studio Camera 4K to multiple HyperDeck Studio recorders for extremely high quality recording in ProRes, DNxHD or even uncompressed 10-bit!
Flexible Rigging Options
Mount the camera to tripods, vehicle mounts, lighting rigs and more using the 1/4” thread mounts on the top and bottom of the chassis. Light weight LCD displays or external microphones can be attached using the top mount point while the bottom can be used used for motorized, remote control heads or camera rail systems.
Turn your Micro Studio Camera 4K into a full sized broadcast camera by mounting a small TV or monitor such as the Blackmagic Video Assist. The Blackmagic Video Assist can act as an HD or Ultra HD monitor so you get the adjustable viewfinder for building your perfect custom studio camera! The Blackmagic Video Assist can also record HD so you can use it for local ISO recordings or build your perfect custom production camera.
Uncompressed video transmitters can take HDMI or SDI out from the Micro Studio Camera 4K and wirelessly transmit the signal to digital recorders like the Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio or the Blackmagic Video Assist. You can get HD video transmitters that send 1080p60 signals up to 300 ft away. Wireless SDI transmitters have almost no latency and are perfect for wireless links to a live production switcher!
LANC Remote control
With support from hundreds of manufacturers around the world, LANC is a universal standard for controlling various camera lenses and accessories. A LANC jack is provided on the expansion port’s breakout cable so you can connect external lens controllers for your Micro Four Thirds lenses. That means, depending on your lens, you could get wired remote control over things like iris, focus and even servo zooms.
You can use commonly available LP-E6 rechargeable batteries so you never lose power in the middle of a critical live production. These popular removable camera batteries are widely available around the world, so you can always have a few spares on hand, so if you think you’re camera is at risk of potentially losing power you can quickly add a battery to make sure your camera remains powered at all times.
