Blackmagic DirectShow™ DriverUltraStudio Pro works with popular video software because of DirectShow™. What’s DirectShow™? It is a file format within Windows™ operating systems that let application software capture and play back via hardware. Once hardware is DirectShow™ compatible, then it’s also compatible with hundreds of software utilities, ranging from large editing software to small custom utilities. Unlike expensive prebuilt systems, with DirectShow™ compatibility you have the freedom to configure your system exactly the way you want. To make things even easier, we include setups for editing software such as Premiere Pro®. Simply click, and start editing!
Blackmagic Media ExpressSometimes when you're only doing DVD authoring, streaming or visual effects, you don’t want the complexity of using editing software just to capture and master a few clips to tape. Our included Blackmagic Media Express application lets you capture and play clips, taking care of communicating with decks via RS-422. Blackmagic Media Express software is easy to use. Just enter IN and OUT timecode points and select Get Clip, or Put Clip, and your clip will be transferred between DeckLink and your broadcast deck. It’s all automatic, so it’s fast, you can even grab still frames from decks!
Adobe® Photoshop® Plug-insAdobe Photoshop is a great application for broadcast graphics and is the industry standard for designers. Grabbing and outputting graphics is easy using UltraStudio Pro’s Photoshop acquire and export plug-ins. You can even select 16 bit RGB images, then combine with 10 bit SDI video to give you the extra quality. Because we handle all SD and HD color space conversions to SDI (with unity gain), it’s impossible to generate graphics with illegal colors beyond the industry standard 100% RGB clip level.
SD Alpha Keying with LiveKeyUltraStudio Pro can be switched into standard definition keyer card so you can live insert logos and other graphics in real time using the SDI outputs to an external mixer. The included LiveKey application allows you to turn on and control keying, and can also be used to output still images with alpha channels to key. LiveKey allows custom setting of key blending levels for live, up and down, fading of graphics. If you want to add a periodic overlay of a graphic, such as “not for copying or distribution” labels on dubs, then LiveKey has an automatic mode where graphics can be programmed to cycle up and down. You have full control of the 'on' and 'off' times, and fade up and down rates for total flexibility.
Disk Speed TestConfiguring a high speed disk array for high speed uncompressed high definition video is getting easier. Even SATA disks can be connected together for low cost arrays with amazing speed and capacity. Use Disk Speed Test (included free) to get a great real world indication of your disk array performance. Reported in a simple frames per second count, Disk Speed Test uses long sustained block transfers just like capturing and playing video, so it’s more accurate than generic disk test utilities.
Blackmagic Software CodecSometimes you might not have a UltraStudio Pro, so with the Blackmagic Software Codec you can still access 10 bit uncompressed files, even with 16 bit rendering. It’s only takes a minute to download and get full media file access even without UltraStudio Pro connected. You can read and render files on as many systems as you like. Even pass our codec to your clients and freelancers so they can move files to portable disks and work offline too! The Blackmagic Software Codec even reads and renders other uncompressed files on both Mac OS X™ and Window™ for QuickTime™ and AVI for Windows™.

Online JPEG for Adobe Premiere ProOn Windows, Blackmagic's full resolution (1920 x 1080) professional quality compressed HD codec can capture JPEG AVI files in real time using Premiere Pro. Unlike HDV and DVCPRO HD which uses reduced resolution 1440x1080 video, Blackmagic's Online JPEG maintains the full resolution 1920x1080 resolution of HD video without the huge file size of uncompressed HD video. Blackmagic's Online JPEG is so efficient that full motion 1080i HD video can be recorded at only 12 MB per second vs. a massive 119 MB per second for uncompressed HD video.

Move between Standard Definition and HDTVUltraStudio Pro supports dual rate SDI so you can instantly switch between SD and HD. This is ideal for modern workflows where HD may be a smaller part of the market for most people. Most people run standard definition for 80% or more of their work, but need high definition capability for specific spots. With SDI products, such as UltraStudio Pro and Blackmagic converters, you can immediately switch over to HD when a job comes along. Full resolution video is supported from standard definition SDI using 720 x 486 for NTSC and 720 x 576 for PAL, and the HDTV resolutions of 1280 x 720 for the 720p HD standard and 1920x1080 for the 1080 HD standard. All downstream converters and routing switchers available from Blackmagic Design will automatically switch between standard definition and HD, making the changeover incredibly fast and easy. Higher Color Resolution and FlexibilitySDI doesn't use compression so you can record video to any kind of broadcast or high end consumer deck, completely independent of the tape format. Unlike DV which only has 4:1:1 color sampling, with 1-red and 1-blue video sample per 4-luma samples, SDI is usually 4:2:2 and has twice the color resolution.
SDI video is also very flexible as all equipment connects together using simple coax BNC cables up to 100 meters or 300 feet in length. Although SDI was previously expensive, Blackmagic Design has single handedly changed the industry making it more affordable for everyone.

UltraStudio Pro's digital to analog output uses active electronic filtering, so get higher quality than common external digital to analog converters. High bit depth conversion combined with active video filtering handles fine HD image detail much better than passive filtering.
